TEAM / CLINICAL ASSOCIATES

Anne Wennerstrand, MS, MSW, LCSW-R

(founder/clinical supervisor) Anne brings 30 years of experience to her current role as a psychotherapist and supervisor. After earning her BFA in dance from Purchase College, she danced professionally and taught in NYC during the height of the AIDS crisis. Losing many loved ones to AIDS, she gravitated towards writing and activism as well as volunteer work with AIDS patients. This inspired her to attend Hunter College graduating with an MSW in clinical social work and an MS in dance/movement therapy.

Upon graduating, Anne worked in community mental health and served the needs of many in the performing arts community. In addition, she studied extensively with the Women’s Therapy Centre Institute (WTCI), a feminist-relational psychoanalytic training program. From there she developed a private practice specializing in general mental health concerns as well as eating and body image problems in girls and women. She was the co-founder and co-director of the WTCI’s two-year post-graduate psychotherapy training program entitled The Embodied Psyche and continues to teach, supervise and present related to these areas of interest.

Her clinical work continues to be informed by modern psychoanalytic principles as well as integrated harm reduction, trauma, intersectionality, social justice, mindfulness, inquiry and embodiment. Coming out of the pandemic she has examined how stigma associated with mental health affects first responders and healthcare professionals. Most recently she was certified in Critical Incident Stress Management and she is also an accredited coach through the Innerland Institute.
